HRNZ and the NZRB have moved swiftly to co-ordinate re-jigged plans for South Island race meetings this week surrounding the forecast ‘weather bomb’ that will work its way up the island from this evening.

Monday’s meeting at Fairfield is scheduled to be the final KS Black & Co Carnival Of Cups meeting for the season and the Secretary-Manager of the ‘Trotdome’ Ross Scherf is expecting plenty of excitement on and off the harness racing track.

The strong role played by families in harness racing – quite possibly the ultimate “family sport ” – was very much on show at the Bathurst meeting last Wednesday.

The Terang Harness Racing Club held a neat compact meeting at Dalvui Raceway Terang on Tuesday April 16, with plenty of winners coming from the Western District and South East South Australia.

The finish line may still be a speck on the horizon, but the Lakeshore Horse Raceway group feels they’re at least ready to bolt from the starting gate after a meeting Tuesday with officials from the Transition of the Ontario Horse Industry committee and the Ontario Racing Commission.

Harness Racing NSW yesterday concluded an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incorrect presentation and subsequent racing of Final Count in Race 2 the Schwager & Sons/ Deans Milk/ Terry Picone John Dean Memorial Heat Two (2,160 metres) at Narrabri Non-Tab Harness Racing Meeting conducted on Saturday 9th March 2013.

The KS Black & Co Carnival Of Cups heads to Broken Hill on Friday night and while it will be the club’s last harness racing meeting for the season it is sure to be the biggest with plenty of prizemoney up for grabs.

Once again the Manning harness racing stable dominated at the Ararat fixture held on Wednesday March 13, with Michelle snaring a stable double (Aheadofhistime and G K Galleon) and Kerryn providing a winner as well with Whata Finale.

The third and final day of the U.S. Trotting Association’s Board of Directors annual meeting came to a swift close on Monday; three brief committee meetings preceded an even shorter meeting of the full board, but there was plenty accomplished before the final gavel fell.
